It is not a panacea

It is not a panacea. It is not a cure-all. It is not meant to be. 

Refugee children must still be cared for in a humane, compassionate manner.
Women who have made allegations of rape and sexual assault must still be heard and their cases investigated.
Income inequality remains a persistent and pervasive matter that must be rectified.
The desecration and defilement of the environment is a travesty that must end.
The existential issue of global climate change must be addressed immediately.
Nuclear proliferation, world trade, the tragic case of the 9-11 First Responders, and so on and so forth are still worrisome items on a full agenda.

Impeachment and removal of Donald Trump from the White House will not solve any of the aforementioned problems.  What impeachment and removal  will do is mitigate all of the above. It is a necessary step in the preservation of our Republic.

Removal of Mr Trump will preserve the Constitution and re-establish the Rule of Law in the USA. The Rule of Law and the Constitution must be protected from lawlessness and incompetence.  

Allow me to remind all the member of the government; by your oath of office, you are sworn to defend and protect the Constitution.

Drumpf the Dove?

Good.
In his ego-sating blundering, he actually did the right thing for a change.
Even a blind pig finds a truffle now and then. Impeach the Felon-in-chief.
Now No more pussy-footing.
No more of this 'gentlemen's agreement' horse manure of false decorum.
We're dealing with a pathological liar and a lifelong criminal who takes the Cosa Nostra as his basic rule of thumb but discards any sense of 'honor or duty' which even the Mafia would adhere.

Drumpf is all that we find despicable in a human. He is the lowest of character. He makes Iago look honorable. At least Iago was conflicted in the drama. Drumpf has no conflict with his ego or his id. Grab-em-by-the-pussy is his motto. Remember how trippingly it came from his mouth? Impeach him and shred that DoJ memo about not indicting a sitting president.
Treason, fraud, obstruction of justice, child endangerment; these are not indictable offenses?

Khoshoggi

Jamal Khoshoggi.
Ring a bell?
A Washington Post reporter. US resident.
Wound up dead after an embassy visit.

The UN remembers. They investigated and found and confirmed strong evidence that Khoshoggi was murdered, dismembered and the remains of his hacked-up body were 'renditioned' to Saudi Arabia.

All of that grisly business was on the orders of the Crown Prince of Darkness, Mohammed bin Salman.

That's MBS to his friends. His friends include Donald Trump's son-in-law. Mr Trump is also very well-associated with the Crown Prince; the Prince who now stands accused of murder and dismemberment by the United Nations' investigation.

What is the White House doing about it?

Or is the would-be president too busy ginning up re-election support from his cult-members to bother? Or maybe it's the feuds he's carrying on by tweet with ...well,  just about everybody left of Joe McCarthy.

The US has no Defense Secretary. No Director of Homeland Security. No director of I.C.E. No director of F.E.M.A. And no White House Communications Director. And no permanent Chief of Staff. Which brings up the fact that there is no acting Director of the Office of Management and Budget.
Oh, and there is no Ambassador to the U.N.

With so much to do, it's easy to see why Mr Trump's White House would be taken unawares by this latest findings that incriminates the Crown Prince, MBS.

So much to do; so little time. 

 More than enough time for golf, though; an offense of form rather than legal substance.

Impeach the president.  He is at the least demonstrably incompetent and at most criminally,  liable or complicit in the commission of numerous felonies.

Felonies. 
The President of the United States.

No one is above the law. Not the POTUS. Not a Crown Prince.
If Trump held any other job, he'd be in prison.

Impeach the president and end this travesty.

He's the Guy

That man, Drumpf, has never done an honest day's work in his entire life.

Part of the cognitive dissonance of the MAGA Kult is that they respect hard-working people (in their way) and revile those they feel are slackers. Drumpf is the poster child for slackers, ne'er-do-wells and lay-abouts... plus he's a pathological liar.

He's the guy who'd take a 2-hour lunch and then insist he was doing inventory in the back on his own.

He's the guy whose drawer would be short every week and blame it on a temp who covered one of his over-long breaks.

He's the guy who would only volunteer for the softest of tasks and lollygag while others did the real work.

He's the guy who'd step in during the closing of a sale and expect to get part of your commission for doing nothing.

He's the guy who would pass along work to his co-workers that he had been assigned to do and then take credit for the job.

He's the guy who would eat your yogurt in the break room and put the half-empty cup back in the 'fridge.

He's the guy who would speak on behalf of the boss without any authority to do so.

He's the guy who went to his grandmother's funeral five different times coming back with a deep tan each time.

He's the guy who would steal the Krispy Cremes from the break-room.

A Debacle in Shambles

 

 

 

The Trump administration is a debacle in shambles. Yet, members continue to game the system for personal profit or to protect the president. We've seen something like this before with Watergate and Irangate. 

Barr was there for Irangate; that's why he's back. He gamed the system then, acting as the defacto attorney for Caspar Weinberger, the former secretary of Defense, and five others who got pardoned by Bush Senior. Trumps is betting that Bill Barr will pull off a brilliant move thus getting Don Jr, Jared, et al. and himself (of course) off the hook.

Barr is compromised. He compromised himself with the infamous memo vacuously arguing nonsense about Individual Number One being above the law re: obstruction of justice.

What is to be done? 

Demand the release of the Mueller Report - unredacted and complete - to the various House and Senate committees. These committees deal with sensitive information on a daily basis. Let the members read it and then subpoena Rob't Mueller and his team to testify to Congress under oath.

We, the people of the United States must know if our president - indeed, our gov't - are crooks.

Indict the POS POTUS

The Michael Cohen hearings, coupled with the numerous investigations and discoveries about the criminality and suspicious activity of Donald Trump and his family, are astounding. 

I lived through the Watergate scandal and remember the turmoil both before and afterwards. However, Nixon's transgressions pale in comparison to the alleged tax fraud, bank fraud, double-dealing, etc which Trump has been accused of and for which strong supporting evidence and documentation exist. 

It has come time for the Congress to honor their oath of office - to serve and protect the Constitution. Unfortunately, the Senate is being strangled into silence and feckless complicity by the GOP majority. That means that any move to impeach will be stymied by that majority in the Senate. 

The House leadership must be ready to act to forestall the damage to our institutions of our Republic and our reputation amongst the community of nations. 

There is no law that prohibits the indictment of a sitting president. (A memo from the 1970's carries little importance. It is time to challenge that memo.) POTUS is a citizen of the USA and is subject to its laws and judicial processes. That is clear. His duties as POTUS are important but not as important as the Rule of Law. 

Mr Trump's nefarious actions as candidate and as president are reprehensible. We must not limited to simply clucking our tongues over his indiscretions and his disregard for due process. 

We must act. 

Call for the indictment of Mr Trump on any of the numerous substantiated charges made against him and the various Trump organizations. Challenge the applicability of the Justice Department memo. Force it to the SCOTUS for a definitive decision. 

No one is above the law. No one. 

Indict Mr Trump. Let the courts sort it out. 

Then move to impeach.

Feeling Fifteen Again

Okay.. for once this blog is NOT about Drumpfen-putz or his minions.
It's about my first solo album of original songs, 'Feeling Fifteen Again'.

After Woodstock, (yes, I went to Woodstock.) I left home in 1969 and went to Nashville to be a songwriter and make an album. Fifty years later and half a world away, I made my solo album in Taipei, Taiwan.

Here's how it happened...

In mid-September, 2018, I approached my friend, Andrew Page, about being my producer. He had worked as co-producer on Joanna Wang's album the year before in Los Angeles. They had used my home studio as a their rehearsal apace for about a month prior to recording. Andrew and I had had long talks about the enterprise and the pit-falls of the music industry. He and I had worked together on a number of music projects as pianist and as trumpet player.

His first question regarding this new project was a poignant one; 'Why do you want to do this?' A reasonable query as I was rather older, at 68, than your average aspiring pop star. I told him that I knew I had it in me to record an album of original songs and as a convenient short-hand, I told him that it was on my 'bucket list'. His second question was more practical; 'When do you want to do this?'
'As soon as possible.'

I gave him a thumb-drive of about two dozen songs I'd written over the past few years.
After some thoughtful consideration and further conversations, he agreed to produce the album and act as music director and play both keyboards and trumpet.

We began almost immediately to arrange the songs. 

It was a most productive time; I wrote several new songs and re-wrote several others as we mapped out the untitled album. After about two weeks, we had fifteen songs to concentrate on perfecting. In the meantime, Andrew found and hired the players and booked the rehearsal rooms and the studio time.

We determined that the album would be 'old school'; recorded 'Live' for the most part, eschewing modern electronic sounds in favor of 'real' instruments. There would be no synth pads to simulate horns or strings. No electronic drums. No pitch correct. No auto-tune. 

Andrew hired some of best players in Taiwan and we went into full-band rehearsal with Chuck Payne on drums, Cody Byassee on percussion, G.E. Anderson on bass guitar, Jacob Liang on guitar, lead by Andrew on his customized Fender Rhodes. A five-piece horn section, lead by Andrew on trumpet, consisted of Matthew Richey (tenor and alto sax) Josh Shaffer (tenor sax) with Alan Wang on first trumpet and me on bari sax and flute. 

Additionally, we had two female back-up singers, Queenie Huang and Green Yang, complemented by G.E., Jacob and me on male back-up vocals. Mark Howe (guitar) rounded out the band; a large ensemble of twelve players. 

Andrew chose YuCheng Cinema Studios, in Nankang, for the recording. Andy Baker, an American, designed and runs the place. We scheduled five full 12-hour days to record thirteen songs for the album, 'Feeling Fifteen Again'.   

The results surpasses all of my expectations. 'Feeling Fifteen Again' is an album of American music which spans several genres; country, rock, pop, swing, gospel. There's even a touch or two of jazz to be found.   

It is a very personal album of songs; all written from life experiences - sweet, sad, bittersweet and joyous. In many ways, it is the story of my life written in short-hand and in outline form with editorial foot-notes and asides. 

My music influences include the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Frank Zappa, Randy Newman, Willie Dixon, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern and a host of other music giants.
